What makes a source eligible

A source is a saved piece of material. A public post needs at least one usable piece of factual material: pasted external text or an owner note. A writing sample alone only describes style; it is not factual evidence. In the current Chat form, new pasted sources are saved as external text.

A selected source must belong to your workspace, still have available text, and have the Public (approved for drafts) audience. Private, expired, or deleted material cannot be used. You can select up to ten sources per task.

Add material in Chat

  1. Choose Add source under Sources.
  2. Enter a short title that helps you recognize the material.
  3. Paste the relevant text. A source can contain up to 32,000 characters.
  4. Leave Private selected unless you explicitly permit public-draft use. To use this source in a public draft, select Public (approved for drafts).
  5. Choose Save source, then check its selection in the source list.
  6. Confirm public use of the current instruction separately and send your task.

  1. Save the source before sending.
  2. Check the correct source is selected.
  3. Permission for a source does not grant permission for every chat message.

Good source choices

Paste the portion that supports your request, including context needed to interpret a quotation or number. Keep a record of where it came from. Adding material is not an authorship claim; external text remains external even after you approve a draft using it.

A URL by itself is not enough. The MVP does not open arbitrary links or accept PDF, image, or audio uploads. If a source URL is recorded, it is a citation, not an instruction to fetch the page.

Change or remove material

Source text is saved as a fixed item. To correct it, add a new source and select that instead. The current form does not edit an existing source's text or audience. Deleting the old source is optional and can block drafts that depended on it, so review the impact first in Brain → Sources.

If more material is requested

Check that a source is both saved and selected, then check its audience and available text. A sample or an unrelated quotation may not support the requested claim. Add better evidence or narrow the task; do not ask the assistant to fill the gap with a personal opinion you never confirmed.
